Autumn Trends 2017

Monday 4 September 2017

Autumn is here and you know what that means... autumn trends!
This season is no let down with everything from futuristic silver to power suits.

No one can deny it, red is the official colour of the season. From Fendi and Max Mara to Pull & Bear, this vibrant colour can be seen everywhere. Recreate this trend: Monki red jeans, & Other Stories denim jacket and Pull & Bear crossbody bag.

The shearling jacket was prominent last autumn among fashion influencers and can now be seen on the runways at Sonia Rykiel, Alexander McQueen and R13. This It girl jacket will be found in many forms: long, short, colourful, lacquered, distressed or a simple jacket with a sheepskin collar. Recreate this trend: Suede ASOS shearling jacket, Faux leather shearling jacket from Monki and Long Ganni shearling jacket.

The midi skirt is staying for the cold weather. Spotted at Loewe, Dior, Gabriela Hearst, and Lanvin in different forms, colours and textures but always with the same ballerina like grace of this silhouette. Recreate this trend: striped H&M midi skirt, wrap skirt from Zara and & Other Stories pleated skirt.

After the slow introduction of suits SS17, we see a total domination of the runway by these simple yet powerful two piece sets with pressed slacks, broad shoulders and double breasted cuts. A real power move. Seen on Stella McCartney and Altuzarra among others. Recreate this trend: flowery H&M set, yellow Zara suit and navy Mango suit.

A favourite (and long awaited) fabric can be seen on influencers and design houses such as Nina Ricci and Paul & Joe: corduroy. After the prominence of 80's in SS17, it is refreshing see so much reminiscent of the 70's for the first time in a few seasons. Corduroy can be seen replacing denim on jackets, skirts, pinafore and trousers alike. Recreate this trend: corduroy trousers from Monki, cream BDG jacket and red Pepe Jeans pinafore.

Plaid may be a staple of the 90's but this autumn season, we are seeing a more vibrant variant with bolder patterns and colours at Chloe, Marc Jacobs, Bottega and Hermes. Recreate this trend: Green & Other Stories coat, Tommy Hilfiger tartan knit and high neck check Zara top.

Appearing both on the runway and the streets, we see comfort taking its place this cosy season. Both track suits and sporty trousers are making an appearance. Style a pair of joggers with some Birkenstocks or a pair heels for a more dressed up look. Recreate this trend: H&M striped trousers, Fila navy joggers and Zara trousers

Last but not least, we see a 60's futuristic inspired fashion. Contrary to the comfort of the previous jogger trend, the night is young and full of metallics. We see Chanel's out of this world space wear, Sex and the City night wear at Saint Laurant and looks fit for the space age at Comme de Garcons. Recreate this trend: Eastpak silver cross body bag, silver anorak from Monki and reflective Mango sneakers.

Love,
Sofia
